K2 2004 - 50 years later
The beautiful weather
continues along the route to K2.
The good weather continues.
Having left Urdukas, the group is presently involved in the not-so-easy search
for a spot to fix a camp on the glacier. We are in full force for the Golden
Jubilee. Tomorrow the arrival to base camp at Broad Peak is expected.
We have a second day of good
weather, sunshine and heat. With the porters, we are beginning the discussion
of the selection of who stays on to continue and who goes back. This year
there is also the “novelty” that they are requesting payment for an extra
stage to arrive to base camp, for a total of 12 days. The agencies are not in
agreement, but there is nothing they can do.

It was problematic finding a
spot for camp on the glacier. We are only 2 expeditions, for a total of 17
members, but the camp spots are set up with 15 empty tents, fixed for the CAI
trekking group, which are to remain always up, even though occupied only a few
days per week.
Tomorrow we are expecting a
long day because we have to arrive to the base camp at the base of Broad Peak.
Meanwhile, we have no clear word from the two groups of porters who are
supposed to be following us.
